Illumination is a FREE community event that focuses on what we can do daily to support our mental health and well-being, especially for our youth! One way that we can do this is by finding and nurturing our "spark" - that thing that gives our lives meaning and purpose. Research has shown that when young people can identify their "spark" and have the support of caring adults in pursuing their sparks,
They have better grades and attendance at school,
They are more likely to be socially competent,
They volunteer in their community more often,
They have a sense of purpose and belonging, and
They are less likely to experience depressive symptoms.
A key learning point at Illumination is how to find our "spark" and what we need to do to nourish our spark - keeping our mental health strong and find a sense of purpose and belonging.

Illumination Fireworks Display
This unique fireworks display, called a "pyromusical", is put together by members of the Utah Pyrotechnics Association (UPA). The UPA is a nonproift organization that helps promote, train, and teach its members and others how to safely participate in the amazing art of pyrotechnics. Club members build fireworks, put together amazing pyrotechnic displays, and help teach about the safe use of fireworks.
The UPA is actively implementing the key message of Illumination - to develop your "spark" - by providing a safe means for those whose "spark" is literally making sparks!
This years Illumination fireworks display is designed by Kurtis Fredericks, a member of the UPA and also the Founder and President of North Davis Project Illumination, and his son Austin Fredericks.
"Fireworks are my spark," says Kurtis, "this is my way of putting into action what we learn at Illumination - to find your spark and develop it, and share it with the world."
The display takes hundreds of man hours to design, prepare product, and set up. Members of the UPA and other volunteers give of their time and equipment to bring this amazing fireworks display to Illumination.
