Mike was born in Logan, Utah, but spent his school years in North Davis County. He married the former Jayne Gibbon who also grew up in North Davis County. They were married in 1971. Mike received a BS degree, majoring in biology, from the University of Utah in 1976. He received a MS degree at the University of Illinois, Loop Campus in Chicago in 1977 in biochemistry. In 1982 he received his DDS at Northwestern University, also in Chicago.
In 1982 he opened the first dental practice west of I-15 in north Davis County, retiring in 2016.
In the late 80’s Mike served on the Syracuse City Council. He resigned that position in 1991 to accept a call to serve in leadership for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was released from the service in 2000. Beginning in 2000, Mike served at the council level for the Boy Scout of America. He completed his service there in 2020.
In 2014, Mike was elected to the Syracuse City Council. In 2018 he was elected Mayor of Syracuse City. During his service as mayor, Mike helped found the North Davis Communities That Care Coalition. He serves as chair of that coalition at the present time.
Mike also serves as the secretary to North Davis Project Illumination.
